LADIES Social Bowls Wednesday

Last Wednesday morning, 6th October, Ladies’ social bowls sprang into life when 19 ladies enjoyed the two games of competition. In the event, there were some close finishes with Jill Winter, Judy Henderson, and Sharon Sharpe sharing first place, the second place also resulting in a tie between Janice Hoover, Gaye Gibb, and Lorraine Bell.

Keep your eyes out ladies for teams chosen for the first round of mixed Leeuwin League Pennants starting next Tuesday.

MEN'S Social Bowls Thursday

On Thursday, 39 men pitched up for Johnny Cunneen's pop-stick draw which saw Mick Finney draw Busselton regular, Cliff Dawson, to claim first prize, closely followed by Alun Legge and Toby McCartney in second place. Don Henderson and Bill Hitsert worked hard to earn the chocolate.

Saturday saw a diminished number of 12 men (where were the ladies?) turn up for the last off-season game of bowls. John Eggleton organised the pairs brilliantly such that he came away with the huge kitty having drawn a visitor from Forrestfield, Brian Rovell, who had certainly played more than once previously! In second place were Ralph Don and Merv Mott.

DONNYBROOK Mixed Fours Carnival

Last Friday, 3 Dunsborough teams travelled to Donnybrook for a Mixed Fours carnival. A great day was had by all with one team getting 3rd place, another getting a round prize. A couple of good raffle wins also rounding the day off.

Garry Atkinson

If you enjoy a carnival or any away competition please emulate our Vice Captain and send details to the Secretary for inclusion in the weekly newsletter. Your committee is keen for many of us to attend away events as this is both kindly and encourages reciprocity for our carnivals. There is a list on the noticeboard for those willing to get involved with away events, so do not hesitate to append your name.

Recent Tennis Activities.

a) Midweek Ladies.......................................Bay Wilson.

Wednesday was a great day for tennis and a dozen ladies turned up.

The volunteer landscapers/ gardeners were also working beside the courts. It was thought at first they may have been talent scouts but they soon proved they were on the “level” and were busy constructing a perfectly aligned retaining wall. Well done Grant and Peter. See photos above.

Thursday was not without incident either. We started  off with ten players but sadly had a mishap. Fortunately the amateur nurses sprang into action and the player was duly patched up sufficiently to get herself home. Subsequent health reports describe no ill effects.

This must be why midweek tennis is such fun. Never a dull moment. Come and join us?!

b) Saturday Organised Mixed Doubles...................Marlene Howes.

Once again it was really good to see so many members at Mixed Organised Social Tennis on Saturday 9 October – 31 members enjoying good weather and great fun on the courts with play continuing until almost 5.00 pm and then many moving to the main Clubrooms to socialise.  With the weather tipped to be more stable over the next few weeks we look forward to continuing good numbers on the courts.

Courts 1 & 2 in full use before the crowd arrived.

c) Newsletter content.

A dynamic action shot photo of your group's activities with an entertaining narrative is always appreciated AND will be published. It is your club!

d) Etiquette Recap

# 3.   All "out" or "fault" calls should be made promptly after the ball has bounced and must be loud enough for the opponent to hear.

Golf Croquet - Singles

We had nine players for singles, including Gary Rodereda from Como, on a
cool but fine Wednesday morning, allowing many to tune up for pennant
matches later in the week.  The best results were:

Golf Croquet – Doubles

Spring has sprung and the croquet courts are full again! We had a total of
18 members playing in our doubles sessions on Wednesday and Friday
afternoon.  Tony Davies had a very good day on Wednesday, winning 4 of his 5
games, Amanda Hurt excelled on Friday with 4 wins from 4 games, and it was
great to see Brian Uren back in top form on Friday, with 3 wins.  Best
results for the week were:

Amanda Hurt:    6 wins from 9 games
Tony Davies:     4 wins from 5 games
Brian Uren:        3 wins from 4 games

GC SW Pennants

The Dunsborough Eagles team had an excellent win in a very tight match
against Busselton Green on Thursday, with all players contributing to the
result.  Robin Beer returned to form with 3 wins from his 4 games, while
Amanda Hurt, John Bastian and Julie Dewar all had 2 wins, to complete a 9
games to 7 final score.

The Sharks team travelled to Busselton on Friday to play the Busselton Blue
team and, unfortunately, the result was reversed with the Sharks going down
7 games to 9.  Don Edwards had 2 good wins, both Barbara and Tony won one
game each and Richard managed to scrape in 3 lucky wins.

Next week the Eagles travel to Bunbury to play Moorabinda White and the
Sharks host Moorabinda Red on Thursday.

The current team ladder has the two Dunsborough teams sitting third and
fourth.
