Newsletter for Tuesday 14 September 2021

Hello {Contact_First_Name},

Our thoughts and condolences are with Shelley Pearce and her family on the recent passing of "Foster".

Longtime club members remember Foster as an active bowler, a supporter of corporate bowls and the club generally, until health issues restricted his participation several years ago.

Apologies to all bowlers. Norman sent the weekly report to me early this morning but it seems when it got to my computer it 'slid down the side of the cabinet and into the bin' and I couldn't retrieve it. At the time of editing this newsletter Norman was bowling so I will get a copy of his report and include it next week.

Recent Tennis Activities.

a) Saturday Organised Mixed Doubles...........Marlene Howes.

Saturday 11 September was a great day of sunshine, little wind and really good attendance. Thirty two players attended Mixed Social Organised Tennis and participated from 1.00 pm to 5.00 pm and then adjourned to the main Clubrooms for a couple of drinks and plenty of laughter and chatter. Seven of the players were visitors, five from Perth and two from Busselton and they provided some great competition on the afternoon and together with some music to add to the enjoyment of the day making it perfect for tennis.

Visitors – Chris and Hossein

Paul Moss & Ray Hirst

Is Patrick happy with his tennis?

b) Newsletter content.

A dynamic action shot photo of your group's activities with an entertaining narrative is always appreciated AND will be published. It is your club!

c) Etiquette Recap

# 5. In doubles, when returning service, the partner of the receiver should generally call the service line for him/her. The receiver should generally call the centre and side service lines. The call needs to be loud enough to stop their opponents/partner playing.

Golf Croquet - Singles

The Club Handicap Singles championship was concluded with play on Wednesday morning and Saturday afternoon, fortunately in dry conditions.  Unfortunately, the field was reduced by the withdrawal of two players due to illness and injury, but this did not affect the evenness of the competition.

By the time the last round was played on Saturday afternoon, three players were in a position to win the championship.  The final results were extremely close, with the winner being decided by just one hoop:

Winner:   Don Edwards,    4 wins, 5 net hoops

Runner-up:      Wendy Collins,  4 wins, 4 net hoops

Third:           Barbara Miller, 3 wins, 2 net hoops

Fourth:           John Bastian,   3 wins, 0 net hoops

Fifth:           Robin Beer,     3 wins, 0 net hoops

Golf Croquet – Doubles

Wednesdays doubles session was curtailed by rain, but there was a good session on Friday afternoon in fine conditions.  Notable performances for the week were:

Odette Moro:    3 wins from 5 games

Brian Uren:     3 wins from 6 games

Larry Hurt:     3 wins from 6 games

Geographe Challenge

The bi-annual Geographe Challenge match against Busselton will be played at Dunsborough this coming Saturday afternoon, with our four doubles pairs striving to win back the shield.

You may notice soil/ clay deposited on previously wet areas, and bridges made over some other wet spots, thanks Andy! There are soil molehills on Downtown, waiting to dry out before going on the trails.
