Sports Results & News for Tuesday 23rd November

BOWLS

MENS BOWLS

The third round of SWBL Pennants was played last Tuesday, 16th November. Our 1st Division side was at home to Collie and earned three points, scoring 44 shots against 28 on the two rinks thus maintaining their second-place on the 1st Division ladder. At Capel our 2nd Division side played away with a 49 shots to 40 victory earning three points and leaving them fourth on the 2nd Division ladder. Also away, at Eaton, our 4th Division side lost by just one shot on one rink but the three points earned by winning the aggregate 38 shots to Eaton's 30, sees them top of the 4th Division ladder by half a point over Boyanup.

Last Thursday, 18th November, there were 47 attendees at Johnny Cunneen's peg-draw. A few days before his 21st birthday our esteemed coach William the Conqueror assisted Geoff Meikle in winning the chocolate. Second-place on the day were Don Henderson and Wally Dawson, while Henk DeBoer and Steve Nicholson ran away with the meat.

Winning on all four rinks on Saturday 20th November our 1st Division side came away with 8 points, beating our arch rivals Augusta. The 84 to 70 shots aggregate win sees us jump to the top of the ladder, now 7 points clear of Margaret River in second place.

Completing the home whitewash, both our 2nd Division teams had clear victories, our Blue side by 42 shots to 26 over Margaret River Green, and our White side by 55 shots to 18 over Augusta’s second side. Dunsborough Blue are well ahead of the other five teams on the 2nd division ladder, while Dunsborough White are in fourth place.

Don't forget Fri 26 Nov  WISE WINE full range tasting with snacks - 6:00pm - let us support our major sponsor and the trouble that our own Alan Legge has gone to in arranging this event.

Names in please on the board for upcoming Men's Pairs and Mixed Pairs.

LEEUWIN LEAGUE ROUND ROBIN PAIRS

There was great excitement when the Leeuwin League came second at the IIRR pairs held at YUNGERUP  over the last couple of days.  Dunsborough had 6 representatives who all combined well with their Margaret River & Augusta team mates. SO CONGRATULATIONS LADIES - WONDERFUL ACHIEVEMENT. Especially pleasing for our new players Lorraine Bell (Duns) and Laura Jelliman (M. River). Southwest ended up on top with 6 points, LEEUWIN 2nd with 4 points, Murray Coastal 2 points and Blackwood 4th.  We were especially pleased as Leeuwin had roughly 20 ladies to pick from, Southwest League has 8 large clubs, Murray 11 large clubs and Blackwood is roughly same size as us, so extremely hard work for all concerned.

Yippee WELL DONE LEEUWIN for coming second.

GEOGRAPHE FINANCIAL GROUP Sponsored our LADIES 4’s CHAMPIONSHIPS which was played over 2 days. It was a Round Robin event, so plenty of bowls to be had.  Eventual WINNERS  were Maureen Hines, Sue Chester, Sharon Sharpe and Daisy Grist.  RUNNERS UP on a count back were Jill Winter, Liz Wilson, Jem Coupar and new player Jackie Atkinson.

TUESDAY PENNANTS

DUNSBOROUGH white and Blue traveled to Augusta with rain dampening the beginning of the day. Both teams had mixed results with White winning one rink and overall aggregate to earn 3 points. Dunsborough Blue also winning one rink but not enough to  grasp the aggregate so gained the 1 point.

Happy Bowlers!

CHEATING AND BRIBERY RIDE

Hi Riders,

Thanks to the Ride Organiser, Mike Longman, marshals and competitors who attended the clubs first, but not last, Cheating and Bribery Ride. The thunder, rain and hail, failed to deter a small group of enthusiastic riders!

The ride started with one marshal stealing a riders e bike, setting the scene for the next hour. A number of tasks had been set, with bribery options at all locations. Devious behaviour, outright cheating, taking of short cuts, tying up bikes and marshals, hindering other teams were all acceptable within this ride/race. As well as the obvious chocolate and cash bribes.

At the post ride Presentations, at the club, comments and grievances were asked for, listened to, then rebuffed with “we don’t care” by the Ride Organiser.

Looking forward to our next Cheating Ride, as we all enjoyed it so much!

See you there,

Cycle crew

Above: Weet-Bix challenge

Above: Duckstein Rescue, huge Kudos to Matt!

c) Night Tennis.

This week required a lot of searching through the Reserves list due to multiple absentee notes from team members. One of the teams on Thursday had substitutes for all four team members, and the Reserves list was quickly exhausted. Many thanks to Dina Barrett-Lennard and Bob Waterman for stepping up even though they  weren’t on the list.

So, the first 5 rounds are complete, and the results are in. Listed are the ‘official’ members of the teams (not necessarily those that substituted on the night)

5th Place with 7 sets – Team 5 (John Stewart, Antonio Carreira, Alessio Schabel, Marlene Howes)

d) Saturday Social Mixed Doubles.

Saturday 20 November saw the courts busy again for Social Mixed Organised Tennis with 20 plus players joining in the play from 1.00 pm.  The weather was perfect, sunny, warm and with minimal breeze and the sunscreen was out in force. We welcomed back Noah McDonald to the courts as well as two other visitors on the day.  There was, of course, a good amount of fun tennis on the day and many adjourned to the clubrooms following play for some lively and funny conversation.  Roll on summer!
