BOWLS

Bowls update

Social bowls numbers were up a little this week.

On Tuesday, 16 players turned up for Butch and Sharon's fun-day with the first prize on offer won by Mick Finney. Joint runners-up were Sharon Sharpe, Keith Bowden, and Maureen Hines.

On Wednesday, Johnny Cunneen's pop- stick draw welcomed 20 entrants with Rob Pollard and Mike O'Mara taking home the meat. Gary Atkinson and Wendell Hoover were just behind. Adrian Cox and Gary Bell enjoyed the chocolate.

Saturday, saw 18 players take part in competition, with Wayne Coyle and Gary Bell coming out in front, and Rob Wilson earning third place.

Thursday, we welcomed the WA Police side again with a warm day to provide pleasant playing conditions for the annual challenge. Games took place under a pennants format on six rinks. Our home side won on three rinks but the WA Police side won the day on aggregate. Our visitors kindly presented the club with a wall shield to commemorate the event and presented nice bottles of wine to Dunsborough's best rink winners on the day - Lorraine Bell, Jem Coupar, Norm Gage, and Wayne Coyle.

Following the Bowling Section AGM last Friday the new officers for the 2022-23 season were elected. Details are on the noticeboard.

Dunsborough is hosting a preliminary round of the BPL Cup on Saturday 28th May 2022.

The event is Open- Gender and team members must be from the one club and are made up of 3 or 4 players.

We are also inviting teams from other clubs in our region and together with Dunsborough  teams should make this an exciting event. Note that entries close at midnight on 25th May.

Details are on the noticeboard.

Shelter Replacement

Members will notice that our old shelter has been removed in preparation for the installation of the new version, which is currently scheduled to take place during the week beginning 16 May.  In addition to the new structure, there will be quite a bit of additional work that needs to be done to make it fully usable, the most significant being the laying of pavers both internally and on the surrounds. This work will be done by Club members, and may take a little time to make the shelter fully usable. We apologise for the inconvenience that this will cause and thank members for their patience in the meantime. For safety reasons, members are asked to stay out of the construction area until completion.

Golf Croquet – Doubles

For those of you who don’t already know, I have had to resign as Golf Captain for this season.  The pressure of other commitments has become overwhelming, and I just have to let some things go.  Unfortunately the captaincy is one of them.  I will still be playing golf and am willing to help out in anyway I can, but my head is too full of other stuff and there is no room in it for all the other things which go with being the captain if I am to remain reasonably sane.

In the meantime, thanks to Pat and Dot for continuing to organise Thursday golf.

My apologies to you all,

Leonie

A number of our Ladies are away on holidays or have medical issues, so our numbers are depleted at the moment, as we commence our season for 2022.

However, those that could play give us the following results;

28 April STB - Winner Dot Carmody   Runner Up Pat Manton

5 May Stroke - Winner Dot Carmody  Runner Up Pat Manton

Our Nine Holers Golfers played both these days with 5 and 6 players.

Our golf course is greening up now and looks very playable.

“Thanks to our band of Men Golfers who work tirelessly on Tuesdays to maintain the course especially the tree debris of leaves, branches etc to make a clearway for our balls to reach the green.

Your efforts are greatly appreciated!”

On a lighter note*****

You may have one of these in your golf bag set.

Good Golfing All !

    TENNIS

    EVENTS:

    Bunbury Teams Carnival
The popular Bunbury Teams Carnival was held over the weekend 30 April - 1 May and for the first time in many years the weather stayed perfectly warm, sunny and still for the entire tournament.

It was well attended with some very competitive doubles tennis teams with teams travelling from many Perth and South West clubs.

It was good to see Jim Davies, John McCallum, Janet Pendrigh, Paul Moss & Greg Banfield (photo below) along with Rob de Gruchy and Marlene Howes representing Dunsborough.

    REGULAR REPORTS:

Saturday 7 May Social Mixed Organised Tennis
This stunning autumn weather continued – minimal wind, cloudless skies and sunshine and the courts were in full swing once again.  It is excellent to see so many players enjoying their matches with smiles and laughter and a number of them enjoyed drinks in the Clubroom prior to the inaugural dinner with our new chef. Tennis Section attendees at the dinner gave extremely positive feedback (particularly with tennis player, Melanie Bromley, providing the entertainment).

    Ladies mid-week Social
Come down and have a friendly few games of doubles, and a cuppa afterwards, with our lovely mid-week social ladies on Mondays & Wednesdays from 9am.

    REMINDERS:

Tennis Section Committee Meeting - Mon 16 May
The next committee meeting will be held at the Club from 1-2pm on Mon 16 May. Full members of the tennis section are welcome to attend.

    Containers for Change
Please ensure you place any empty 10c containers in the bins located near the entry to the Clubhouse (new bins with clear white lids). Recycling these bottles and cans is an easy way for all our club members to assist in earning the club some income - you can also collect these containers at home and drop them into the club bins.
